José María Morelos is the municipal seat and the largest city of the José María Morelos municipality in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city was 11,750 people.

José María Morelos was established in the 19th century with the purpose of exporting wood and chewing gum. It was originally called Kilometer 50, since it was 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Peto.

When Quintana Roo became a state in 1974, the place changed its name to the revolutionary rebel leader José María Morelos, and became the seat of the homonymous municipality.
